Ideal Metals officially started in 1946, but its history starts long before that. At the turn of the century, immigrant William Tuch landed in Chicago. Armed with only an old cart, he collected discarded metals, rags, and glass headed for the city dump. He segregated, cleaned and helped prepare these items to be used as an alternate resource to new, virgin materials. This was long before the days of blue bins, Earth Day and redemption values for aluminum cans. William Tuch was an original recycler.
After moving his family to Los Angeles, William's children took his one-man cart further. In 1946 they opened Ideal Metal & Salvage Company in Culver City, California. Jack Tuch and his brothers serviced the growing industrial and commercial base in Southern California. A second yard was opened in Gardena, California where all operations were consolidated over time. In 1980, Richard Tuch took control of the company, and with his leadership, the company has continued to expand and grow, His son, Steven Tuch, adds his twenty plus years of experience at Ideal Metals. Along with his leadership role at Ideal, Steven is active in the metal recycling trade association known as ISRI. As past Chapter President of ISRI he continues to be involved through key committee leadership posts. With four generations providing over 100 years of recycling experience and expertise, Ideal Metals is the right partner for servicing your industrial and commercial metal recycling needs. |
